“ To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”
A few days ago it was my privilege to participate in the first graduation ceremony of Seminario Bautista Panamericano at the Iglesia Bautista Victoria (Victory Baptist Church) in Charleston, South Carolina. I have told you before how much I enjoy attending these events. It is a blessing to be able to meet our students, hear their testimonies and see their joy, enthusiasm and relief as they receive their diplomas. It is a moment of great accomplishment for them!
The Charleston event was especially significant for me, however. As my wife and I sat in the auditorium, we were propelled back in time. Nearly 30 years ago we served at Victory Baptist Church. Our boys were small. We were still young!
In those years, Victory Baptist Church was an English-speaking congregation. It still is. But they have allowed Pastor Chris Phillips and the Spanish-language congregation to use their facility until they can move out to their own location. Back in those years, I don’t think anyone was considering a multicultural ministry; including the young man who led the music, worked with teenagers and did whatever else the Pastor asked of him.
But the Lord always has His plans. In so many ways, today is preparation for tomorrow. This is a truth that I often emphasize to our students, of course. The work they are doing today, the ministries that they are involved in right now, and the experiences of the present are preparing them for the next stage in life and ministry. Graduation ceremonies, of course, are markers of one of those transitions.
So as I ask you to pray for the ministry of Global Baptist Schools this month, I would ask you to pray for our students and graduates. Pray for their churches, too, as they move from one season of ministry to the next. And, most of all, pray for GBS as we constantly evaluate our own growth and development. We are not the ministry that we were 10 years ago. The future will inevitably bring change, progress and new opportunities. Please ask the Lord to help us to move forward with wisdom, for His honor and glory.
Thank you for you constant and faithful prayers. Thank you to those who support us financially, month after month. It is a joy to serve our Lord with you!
