First National SBP Retreat in Ecuador

First National RetreatOn August 29 and 30, over 120 people, representing 11 different churches from across the Republic of Ecuador gathered at a Baptist Camp just outside of Santo Domingo for a two day retreat. Those who attended were pastors, study center directors and Seminario Bautista Panamericano students. This was our first gathering of this kind in history and the response was very enthusiastic. Seminario Bautista Panamericano is the Spanish-language Bible Institute program operated by GBS.  SBP classes are held in individual local churches so it can be difficult for students to imagine that they are a part of much larger “family” that extends to 13 different countries across the Americas. This national retreat gave them an opportunity to meet other students, from other churches and compare notes on their studies. As one student said at the end of the retreat, “Now I feel like I am a part of something!”

GBS president Bob Reed was hand to speak in the three general sessions to the group, as well as to meet with the Pastors of the churches and those who are assisting their pastors with the administration of the school. Plans were laid for future improvements to the ministry, both in Ecuador and in all of our SBP study centers. We are grateful to Pastor Franco Loyola and the Faith Baptist Church (Iglesia Bautista de la Fe) of Santo Domingo for his invaluable help in arranging this meeting.
