Pastor Jonathan Ramirez of Guayaquil, Ecuador has announced that his church will be opening their GBS study center on Saturday, April 4. Among the 11 students will be two from an indigenous church in the area. You will notice in the picture to the right (click to enlarge it) that our students in Ecuador read the life story of Jim Elliot as a part of their work in the first module. Elliot, of course, was one of missionaries who was martyred as they attempted to reach the Huaorani people of Ecuador (perjoratively known as the Auca Indians) with the gospel in the 1950’s. Although those five young men lost their lives in the attempt, the fruit of the labor has been enormous.
While these two new GBS students are not Huarani, they will, no doubt be impacted and encouraged, along with their classmates, with the testimony of God’s faithfulness in their own land. May He use their studies of His word to challenge them to be just as committed to reaching the people of Ecuador, as were Elliot and his companions. Please pray for Pastor Ramirez and those 11 students in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
